Today was Bike-to-Work Day so Doug (hubby) worked hard the last several days getting back in shape, doing a test run, using Weslee's exercycle, and getting saddlebags for lunch box, work clothes, etc. The pic above shows his triumphant return from work - after going 4 miles in 30 minutes. Not bad, considering the smog, traffic, and extreme heat (92+ degrees).
Because of the heat, he could have decided to drive. But our family strongly believes in doing what we can to help our Earth. While not driving to work is only reducing a little of our carbon footprint, it is better than doing nothing. And he does plan on doing it at least once a week. More if possible.
And I have reduce my driving (errands, library, grocery, banking, etc.) from several times a week to one or two. Errands are organized and done in the most efficient manner possible. Banking is done without the bank. Mail order is utilized as much as possible. We do what we can as often as possible.
We rearranged the garden today. I knew I had the tomato plants (in pots) too close to the corn beds and it had been bothering me, so after days of pondering the situation, I starting moving the tomatoes. Doug helped after changing from work clothes. Then we gave everyone a great big drink of water. And, of course, an hour later we got about 10 minutes of rain.
And how can I forget?! We picked our first blueberries today! Just 8 of them (1 looked a little quite not ripe) and I'll take a pic soon hopefully, before we snarf on them.
I'm thinking about planting a few elderberry bushes and a few bayberry shrubs. Anybody have experience with them?
Not much more today. Read, worked on books, babied my plants, helped Weslee with schoolwork, and errands. It's 8:20 p.m. and I'm soooo ready for sleep. Hopefully Doug too! V.
