DO YOU GARDEN? I am researching a book called "My Very First Garden" (about edible gardening... fruits, vegetables, herbs, etc.) and need your true stories! Do you have a good (or even bad!) memory about the first garden you ever did? Was it inside in pots, outside when you were a kid, or in a community garden? Did you harvest anything or did the rabbits get it all? Please submit your short but true story to vikkibooks at yahoo dot com by April 27 2010. Your submission implies your consent to use your story and the possibility of (minor) editing. Thanks!

Here in the Denver area, it's already so hot. I'm sweating buckets at 8:00 a.m. when I water the garden! So, here it is, 11:13 a.m. and I've only worked on inside stuff. I think I'll water the garden tonight after Doug gets home. Right now, son is hungry and unfortunately, so am I.

Thought I'd post a few pictures.

First is a pic of the one filbert (hazelnut) tree - planted the "stick" in March 2008 - and this is what it looked like on June 08, 2008. Odd looking, isn't it?

Above is a pic of a small rhubarb plant - we got it in March from mother-in-law and planted in the tire the next weekend. This is a pic of it on Jun 17 2008. We've already taken our first cutting!

The below is the corn bed I started inside in flats on Memorial Day - "Early and Often" sweet corn, with string beans and various gourds & squashes (the "three sisters"). We planted them outside in these two raised beds (2'x4') on June 08 2008 - plus extra seeds. Covered them with yellow tulle fabric we had bought at a yard sale last year - a whole bolt for $5. The next pic is the corn bed about one week later (Jun 17 2008) - unbelievable!

I'll post more pictures when I can. Uh, if I can figure out how to do it better! Thanks for reading.... Vikki
