DO YOU GARDEN? I am researching a book called "My Very First Garden" (about edible gardening... fruits, vegetables, herbs, etc.) and need your true stories! Do you have a good (or even bad!) memory about the first garden you ever did? Was it inside in pots, outside when you were a kid, or in a community garden? Did you harvest anything or did the rabbits get it all? Please submit your short but true story to vikkibooks at yahoo dot com by April 27 2010. Your submission implies your consent to use your story and the possibility of (minor) editing. Thanks!

Today's Moment: Procrastination

Here's today's "Take a Moment": Procrastination

I'll write this later.

Just teasing. However, I have often been referred to as the "queen of procrastination", and Hubby is now the "king". Bad habits. Now being picked up by Son. Why do we put things off? Sometimes, er, no, usually, it's better to just get things done and out of the way. Why do we wait until we feel better, and maybe have a little more time? Or sometimes, things don't get done at all because we wait and wait and wait, then it's just too late.

Take Son. He knows his schoolworks needs to be done by a certain time, but he prefers to dilly-dally, pace, sing songs, play in the bathroom, and who-knows-what-else. When I start counting down to time left, he might scramble to start his work, but usually gets side-tracked again, and thinks he has plenty of time. Then, an hour or two is left to do 4 or 5 assignments, and it's the real scramble time, mixed with begging for more time and dealing like "tell you what, if you give me another two hours, I'll finish it up by then".

Procrastination. Why?

Hi there, your blog came up while I searched 'procrastination'! It really is a lovely blog with many delightful thoughts.
As a coach, I get to help people with procrastination all the time. There's a lot of reasons why we procrastinate.
My favourite (and I do this, too, sometimes!) is procrastinating because we'd rather be doing something more fun. But we don't do the 'more fun' thing because we're sitting in that energy of "I really ought to be doing that other thing." So we fuss around with other things..like watching tv.

What helps is knowing your bigger purpose. So, for example, has your son dreamed big of what his future could be? If there is some areas he's really passionate about, and he recognizes anything is possible... he can better understand how some of the 'must do's' will contribute or he can even find ways that the 'must do's' apply to his passion. ie: school projects where he has a choice of topics, he can pick topics that will help him learn and grow in the areas he cares about.

Just some thoughts! I love the way your categories.. makes me want to read and read!

Happy getting to what you really want to be doing!-
