DO YOU GARDEN? I am researching a book called "My Very First Garden" (about edible gardening... fruits, vegetables, herbs, etc.) and need your true stories! Do you have a good (or even bad!) memory about the first garden you ever did? Was it inside in pots, outside when you were a kid, or in a community garden? Did you harvest anything or did the rabbits get it all? Please submit your short but true story to vikkibooks at yahoo dot com by April 27 2010. Your submission implies your consent to use your story and the possibility of (minor) editing. Thanks!

8/05: Weslee's Letter

To: The World

Milk comes from female mammals. Other animals that aren't mammals don't give milk. Some cow's milk has the drugs that the cows were given. So get organic instead. Goat's milk has just a little bit of the same problem. As I said, milk comes from female mammals!

7/30: Weslee's Letter: The Desert

To: The World

Believe it or not, plants grow in the desert. Also animals. One arachnid is the deadly scorpion. It looks like a spider only if it didn't have the long tail and claws! The giant scorpion that lived long ago, could rip a cactus off the ground. Cacti are plants that grow in the desert along with the animals.

7/29: Weslee's Letter: Paper and Pandas

To: The World

Paper is made from trees, but in China, it's made from panda droppings! Speaking of panda's, I just remembered that they're endangered animals of the bear family. Red pandas are in the raccoon family. Although they belong in that family, red pandas, panda bears and raccoons have mask markings. And I guess China made panda droppings into their own China paper. Clever and talented too!

Meanwhile, temp got up to 97 degrees so today was Day 17 in our Streak-Of-Over-90-Degree-Days. Tomorrow we're expected to tie the record of 18 days, and there's no relief anywhere in sight. V

Jury Duty

So much for my plan to drive my car only once this week. Arggh! I had Jury Duty today! Dropped Weslee off at sitter's at around 6:45 a.m. and after a brief chat with Miss Tiffany (nice lady BTW), I drove the long drive to the courthouse. Let me tell you - they need cushioned seats! Sooo not comfortable.

After about 30 minutes my name was called to fill out a questionnaire. Did and submitted. About 2 hours later, the other people in my group were taken to our courtroom and we listened the judge tell us about our service and duty, and the lawyers asked their questions. Thank goodness I was near the bottom of the list so I was in kinda the "reserve" section... no real questions. After a long day, those of us not chosen to be on the jury got to leave. Yippee!!

Doug picked up Weslee from the sitters - I understand that Weslee was pretty good but didn't eat much for lunch. I had even packed some of his favorites! That's very unusual for my "Bottomless Pit Boy" but he later explained that he just wanted to get back to the video or game or whatever. Fun fun!

And a big thanks to Doug for picking Weslee up, and for watering the garden tonight and letting the ladybugs go take care of our bad bugs. Barely got to say hi to my gourds!

Ok, I'm officially over the edge now. Have a great day! V.
