DO YOU GARDEN? I am researching a book called "My Very First Garden" (about edible gardening... fruits, vegetables, herbs, etc.) and need your true stories! Do you have a good (or even bad!) memory about the first garden you ever did? Was it inside in pots, outside when you were a kid, or in a community garden? Did you harvest anything or did the rabbits get it all? Please submit your short but true story to vikkibooks at yahoo dot com by April 27 2010. Your submission implies your consent to use your story and the possibility of (minor) editing. Thanks!

How we spent our Christmas Day....

We tried to sleep in late, but about 7:30 we woke up and remembered that we hadn't wrapped any of Son's gifts. We let the dog out the back and on our way back to the bedroom, Son woke up. "Five more minutes". "Uh, honey, it's Christmas." He shot up in bed, ready for the day. After his trip to the bathroom, we explained that we hadn't wrapped anything.

The three of us decided he's sit on the bed in our bedroom, facing away from the closet where the presents were, and he would cover his face and close his eyes. That's how he got his gifts this year. Started with the not-so-great like two toothbrushes, toe-socks, and ended with eye clops night vision goggles. Guess which was his favorite! Thanks to Grandma/Grandpa for the huge set of legos and to Aunt Suzi for the hoodie!

Then we ate leftover cake for breakfast (I know, bad parents) then went down to the living room to play Yahtzee. We had fun for hours, from playing games to taking a walk to taking a nap (us adults, at least). We had to run out for batteries and sinus medication (forgot one, and ran out of the other) - found one store open but was closing 13 minutes after we got there. Yep, we ran.

It was a nice quiet day. We had thought to sing karoake but didn't get around to it. Wife got violently sick, so laid in bed for a while.

Still, it was a good holiday for our little family. Hey family .... how was yours?
