I'm writing this several days after our last posting: the one about the mouse. Turned out to be more than one. So far we've caught two and we are certainly hoping that was it. The first was brown, so probably a field mouse displaced from mowing in a nearby field. The second had a bit more white in it. Needless to say, those two are gone. The traps are still baited.... just in case.
Meanwhile, Friday afternoon when Doug got home from work, we piled in the Bronco with the dog crate and leash/collar, and headed to Denver's humane society. Or tried to. Big time rush hour delays. Finally got there, and found Spirit. She's a little 8.8 lb tan/black/white Chihuahua (mix of American and Mexican). She's around 4 years old, and was transferred to this shelter from one where Ike hit. She loving and cuddly and sweet and, for the most part, well behaved. Someone previous must have allowed her to beg table food, so that's a habit we aren't keeping.
And she loves to burrow under our covers at night (we find her warming our feet in the middle of the night!). She's very protective of all three of us, and is tolerant of Weslee's tentative attempts to pick her up and play with her.
That's Weslee with Spirit above. I went to the thrift store today and bought several pink towels for her to have as bedding and "cuddlies". She LOVES them!
She found one of the baited traps the first night; it didn't quite snap her nose but she's wary of the little yellow things now. Hope she'll keep any other critters at bay.
She's already a part of the family. Welcome to our family, Spirit.
